My Story

When a legend and icon like Quincy Jones raves about an artist by saying “her strong and sultry vocals are seductive and soul soothing. Her talent and beauty are equally extraordinary. One listen and you know… she is the real deal,” you can be sure music fans everywhere will take notice and wonder just who that artist is.
In this case that would be Mississippi born Deborah Silver, back to follow up her chart topping album, The Gold Standards. Produced by Steve Tyrell with arrangements by Alan Broadbent, it reached #1 on the Billboard Traditional Jazz Album chart while also landing at #1 on the Billboard’s Heatseeker Album chart and in the #2 spot on the overall Billboard Jazz Album chart.
And exactly how does this unique and exciting singer follow up? With Glitter & Grits, a new album produced by industry legend Ray Benson, featuring musicians from his 10x Grammy award winning band, Asleep at the Wheel.
Glitter & Grits reinforces Silver’s immense versatility, as she takes us on a journey through genres ranging from jazz to country and Americana, while also exposing a new audience to an array of Great American Songbook classics and more. The unique Western swing style brings these songs to life in a dynamic and uplifting way.
After her 40 day battle with Covid-19, Silver declares “not only am I grateful to be alive, but now more than ever, I have a huge desire to help people stay upbeat during these tough times. I truly just want to share this fun and cheerful album with everyone because the world sure could use a dose of happiness right now.”
As she was just beginning to make her mark in the music world, Deborah chose to forego her career and dedicate herself to raising her children. But after the birth of her second child, Deborah was diagnosed with a rare bone disease, confining her to a wheelchair for a year. Fortunately, she was able to walk again just before her toddler began running. Years flew by and when her children began calling her on the phone from their bedrooms she knew they were old enough for her to return to performing.

Deborah came back with a bang with sold out stage performances in clubs, concert venues, and with symphony orchestras. Her shows are reminiscent of the glamour that once epitomized Las Vegas. One would certainly never know that she was ever stricken with this debilitating diagnosis, the way she gracefully moves on stage with a contagious energy. She is an inspiration to women everywhere seeking to rediscover themselves. And her epic return proves that if you’re willing to work hard, anything can be overcome. Thus, her mantra #NeverTooLate.
Some of the more recent venues at which she has shined and impressed include Jazz at Lincoln Center, Feinstein’s/54 Below, Catalina Jazz Club, The Colony’s Royal Room, as well as legendary events such as the Jazz Congress.
Deborah also recently released “Orange Colored Sky,” a duet with the late multiple Grammy nominee Freddy Cole, paying homage to his brother Nat King Cole. This single received critical and popular acclaim, further cementing Deborah as an artist to keep on the radar.
The reviews of Deborah’s recording works and stage shows, to no one’s surprise, are consistent raves and accolades. “When Deborah Silver takes over a mic, she doesn’t just visit the stage, she owns it! Trust me. With beauty, style, talent, swinging musical savvy and a bundle of bazazz, Deborah Silver’s got it all in one package. She’s a thrill, a swinging show-biz whirlwind…and a bargain at any price!” according to veteran critic Rex Reed.
Deborah looks not only to inspire with her back story, but more so with her everyday actions. Typical of her philanthropic nature, Deborah pledged 100% of the proceeds from sales of her 2010 CD Pure Silver—a stellar collection of standards and pop favorites–as well as the first week of sales of The Gold Standards, to various charities including United Way, Semper Fi Fund (supporting injured members of all branches of U.S. Armed Forces) Nascar Victory Junction Gang Camp (for children with serious medical conditions) and ALS research, in honor of her sister who was diagnosed with the vicious disease. Deborah and her daughter began a charitable worldwide movement titled SLAM ALS to continue this support for a cure. Most recently, to help others suffering from pandemic related hardships, Deborah teamed up with 12x Grammy nominee, Dennis Lambert to write a song to raise funds for the Actors Fund and Jazz Foundation of America.
Deborah Silver has been through it all; from a young parent with unique health battles to a Billboard Chart-topper. Now comes the next step in the evolution of this extraordinary vocalist and performer whose best is still unfolding before a growing legion of new and eager followers. Glitter & Grits indeed!
