****RINGER OF THE WEEK****
The Count Basie Basie Orchestra with Deborah Silver: Basie Rocks!

Over 90 years old, and even without its founder, the Count Basie Orchestra still continues to swing, and swing hard. Here, vocalist Deborah Silver brings in the band (now directed by Scotty Barnhart) and a slew of guests to take on The Great American Boomer Rock Book. Silver has a strong and confident delivery, and has a  hoot of a time with a brassy “Bennie and The Jets” while searing through “A Hard Day’s Night”. Even better is when she brings on some guests, such as guitarist Peter Frampton to join in on his own dramatic “Baby I Love  Your Way”, while Arturo Sandoval brings salsa to “Paint It, Black” and Bill Frisell’s guitar adds space sounds to “Fly Like An Eagle”. She duets with Kurt Elling along with Steve Jordan and John Clayton on a rich “Tainted Love” and even George Coleman joins in for a misty blue’d Every Breath You Take”. It may not be Pres, but it is young.
