Deborah Silver & Jazz Icon Diane Schuur Reimagine “The Lady Is a Tramp”

Produced by GRAMMY® Award-Winning Producer Steve Tyrell, the timeless classic returns July 24 as a powerful celebration of fearless women, friendship, and authenticity

GRAMMY®-nominated jazz artist Deborah Silver joins forces with legendary jazz icon Diane Schuur for a captivating new interpretation of the Rodgers & Hart classic “The Lady Is a Tramp,” available worldwide on July 24. Produced by GRAMMY® Award-winning producer Steve Tyrell, the recording transforms the beloved standard into a powerful musical conversation between two extraordinary women whose careers have been defined by a fearless commitment to their craft.

The collaboration brings together two celebrated vocalists with a deep connection to the legacy of the Count Basie Orchestra and the Great American Songbook. Silver’s album “Basie Rocks!,” recorded with the legendary Count Basie Orchestra, earned a GRAMMY® nomination in 2026, showcasing her dynamic interpretation of rock classics alongside special guest artists including Peter Frampton and Trombone Shorty. Schuur, a two-time GRAMMY® Award-winning vocalist and one of jazz’s most celebrated voices, has spent decades captivating audiences worldwide with her extraordinary vocal range, emotional depth, and masterful improvisation. Her storied career includes a longstanding relationship with the Count Basie Orchestra and a lifelong dedication to preserving and expanding the legacy of jazz.

The recording marks what may be the first commercially released version of “The Lady Is a Tramp” as a duet between two female jazz vocalists, pairing Silver’s dynamic contemporary jazz sensibility with Schuur’s legendary vocal artistry. The project came together through longtime friend and producer Steve Tyrell, who recognized the unique chemistry between the two vocal powerhouses and brought the three heralded artists together for a fresh take on a beloved classic. Tyrell has worked with some of the most influential artists in music and entertainment and is renowned for creating timeless recordings that capture the unique emotion, personality, and artistry of each performer. His deep understanding of the Great American Songbook makes him the perfect creative force behind this unforgettable collaboration.

“This is more than just a duet,” says Silver. “It honors women everywhere who have the courage to be exactly who they are — not driven by status or the approval of others but guided by character, conviction, and heart. That’s the spirit of ‘The Lady Is a Tramp!’

From our very first conversation, Deeds, as I call her, made me feel completely at ease. By the time we recorded, it felt as though two old friends were sitting together, swapping stories. I think that warmth, admiration, and trust come through in the recording.”

“Collaborating with Steve Tyrell and Deborah was a blast,” says Diane Schuur. “I believe in female empowerment, and we took on this song as a way to say we women can have what we want, when we want it. This arrangement truly swings, and I hope the social
statement is heard in what we created.”

“Deborah’s GRAMMY® nomination is a testament to her incredible artistry, and she has become one of the finest interpreters of the Great American Songbook today,” says Steve Tyrell. “‘Deedles’ remains one of the most extraordinary voices in jazz history. Bringing these two remarkable artists together was about more than pairing two singers. It was about creating a genuine musical conversation. Together they reveal a whole new side of this classic. As a producer, that’s exactly what you hope for.”

For Silver, the song’s message has taken on new meaning over time. “When I was younger, I always felt a little uncomfortable with this song because I didn’t like hearing anyone call her a ‘tramp,'” says Silver. “But I realized she isn’t a tramp at all. She’s a ‘champ’! She’s a woman who does not let anyone else define who she is.”

“The Lady Is a Tramp” will be released on all digital streaming platforms on July 24.
