Deborah Silver Story
"Teach Me Tonight"..."The Nearness of You"..."I Can't Give You Anything But Love"..."Pennies From Heaven"...the 13 classic pieces on Deborah Silver's critically acclaimed #1 album The Gold Standards are Great American Songbook tunes we've all probably heard a million times each - yet somehow the charm, charisma and unique storytelling spirit she brings to these fresh imaginings makes them sound like we're opening our hearts to them for the first time. The beautifully rendered collection is an out of the box smash, entering at #1 on Billboard's Traditional Jazz Albums chart, #1 on Billboard's Heatseeker Album Chart, #2 on Billboard's Jazz Album Chart and at #10 on Billboard's Independent Album Chart. Not only did it stay on the charts for three weeks, but it also hit the Billboard Top 200.
Testament to the emotional power of her voice, her dynamic and diverse performance history, Deborah launches her commercial recording career in the company of numerous legendary Grammy winners - including producer and vocalist Steve Tyrell (Rod Stewart, Diana Ross, Ray Charles, Bette Midler, Stevie Wonder, who helmed the project with Jon Allen), arranger Alan Broadbent (who won his first Grammy for Natalie Cole's Unforgettable) and two time Grammy winning vocalist Jack Jones, who duets with her on "I've Got a Crush on You." Another song, "The Glory of Love," features multi-platinum jazz singer and Tony Award nominee Ann Hampton Callaway.
"My goal in recording The Gold Standards was simple: to make an album people would enjoy listening to whether they're relaxing at home or enjoying a romantic evening with the person they love," says Deborah. Prior to the album's release, LegendsRadio.com and The Society for the Preservation of the Great American Songbook awarded Deborah Silver the Legend to Be Award for Album of the Year by a newcomer.
Whether singing a sultry ballad or belting out a vocal range that physically defies the small package it's coming from, in her performances, Deborah Silver blends the Great American Songbook with Jazz and Blues classics, Country and Pop hits and Broadway favorites. Deborah's signature "Silver Spin" is taking a classic and putting on some "silver polish." Delighting audiences nationwide from Jazz at Lincoln Center and Feinstein's/54 Below in NY to The Colony's Royal Room in Palm Beach and music festivals. She is at home playing packed concert halls as well as intimate cabaret rooms. Deborah especially loves to perform concerts which help charitable organizations. Deborah has also had the honor of touring with the Bob Hope USO tour as her way of giving back to our nation's armed forces. Inspired by her sister Marjie, who is battling ALS, Deborah Silver also donates 100% of all funds to a cure for ALS from her first CD "Pure Silver" produced with Paul Hoyle (Shakira), Ron Abel (Shirley Jones, Lucy Arnaz) and Bill Schneider (Bette Midler).
She's been a critic's darling now for many years. Will Friedwald (Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Entertainment Weekly) says: "I was pulled in by the personality, the charisma - the life force. Deborah is a miraculously three-dimensional performer, which is to say that she hardly sings every song the same way, but there's an engaging upbeat quality in everything she sings." Rex Reed of the New York Observer has also been effusive in his praise: When Deborah Silver takes over a mike, she doesn't just visit the stage, she owns it! Trust me. With beauty, style, talent, swinging musical savvy and a bundle of bazazz, Deborah Silver's got it all in one package. She's a thrill, a swinging show-biz whirlwind...and a bargain at any price!"
